Zenas Melvin Layman, 84, of Hanna, passed away Friday, August 5, 2011 at the Muskogee Regional Medical Center. Zenas was born on March 14, 1927 in Hanna, Oklahoma the son of Scott Woodward and Novie Gracie (Adams) Layman. He enlisted in the United States Navy on April 20, 1945 and served during World War II as a Seaman 1st Class. He was honorably discharged on April 28, 1946. On July 9, 1945, Zenas married Lenora “Christine” Hill in Eufaula, Oklahoma. Zenas worked as a cement mason and later as a farmer. He was a member of the 7th Day Adventist Church in Okmulgee where he served as an elder. Survivors include his wife, Lenora “Christine” Layman of Hanna, his son, Zenas Layman, Jr. and wife Teri Layman of Hanna, his grandchildren, Scott Layman and wife Sudy of Bakersfield, California and Angela Staveley and husband Owen of Checotah and his great grandchildren, Owen Staveley & Blair Staveley and Trisha Layman and Trey Layman. He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Martine, J.D., C.L. and Buddy, and two sisters, Beatrice Henson and Dorothy Sparks.
