Winnifred was born on March 25, 1926, in Muskogee, Oklahoma the daughter of Roman Veloy and Iva (Cagle) Austin. She met the love of her life, William "Bill" Fox, while singing at a supper club. She sang and played the guitar having all the leads and harmony. They fell in love and in 1973 were married in Wichita, Kansas. She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star in Norwich, Kansas where she served as a Worthy Matron, a member of the VFW Auxiliary and an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Winnifred was a member of the Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Survivors include: her husband, Bill Fox, of the home; her daughters, Bonnie Hagan and husband Doug of Harrah, Dixie Hurley and husband Kevin of Williston, North Dakota, Vicki Haeberle and husband Allan of LaQuinta, California and Janis Engels and husband Duane of Rosehill, Kansas; her son, Brad Fox of Wichita, Kansas; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and a nephew, Michael Willcut and wife Lana of Eufaula. She is preceded in death by her parents, a son, Chuck Thornbrugh. a sister Ada Gene Willcut and a nephew, Pat Willcut.
