Wanda Isabel Brown, 96, of Chelsea, formerly Eufaula, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Wanda was born on November 8, 1927 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Will Alfred and Florence Levada (Dyson) Turner. She grew up on a wheat farm in Nickerson, Kansas. She attended a county school where children from 5 years old through 8th grade were all taught in the same room. During her childhood, she and her two sisters and mother played instruments and sang at the Nazarene Church in Hutchinson, where they attended. Wanda played the banjo, piano, and organ. Wanda graduated from Nickerson High School. She started working for Pacific Bell Telephone Company when she was 18 years old, first as a switchboard operator before telephones had dials on them and later when telephones with dials became widely used she worked in the business office. On September 30, 1949, she married Robert C. Brown and two children were born to this union. In 1962, they moved with their two girls to La Mirada, California. During the early 1980s, they moved to Eufaula, Oklahoma to be near their oldest daughter, Linda. Wanda was married to Robert for thirty-nine years, before he preceded her in death in 1988. After his passing, she moved back to Southern California to be near her sister, Dorothy. While living there, she attended Calvary Chapel in Downey, California with her sister. Wanda moved to Sacramento, California where her youngest daughter, Debbie, lived and they attended Real Life Church. In February 2023, she came to spend her last year in Chelsea, Oklahoma with her oldest daughter, Linda. While living there, she attended St. James Methodist Church in Tulsa. Wanda loved to crochet and crocheted many things from coasters to tablecloths. She made sure that all her grandchildren had a crocheted baby booties, hat, and jacket. Wanda also enjoyed the outdoors, planting beautiful flowers and listening to the birds and spent countless hours playing the piano and organ. Later in life, she loved reading and when she could no longer see, would listen to books.
Survivors include: her two daughters: Linda Kay Davis, of Chelsea, Oklahoma and Debbie Sue Lindsey, of Sacramento, California; seven grandchildren: Roberta Lynn Beirne, James Paul Davis, Timothy Mark Davis, Angela Christine Cruz, Tracy Joy Harlow, Sean William Mortimer; nine great grandchildren: Connor Paul Beirne, Evelyn Lily Davis, Aanya Rose Davis, Roshan Paul Davis, Cole Dwayne Cruz, Tyson Davis Cruz, Kayla Joy Wells, Chloe Lynn Harlow, Mason Aaron McConnell, and Mia Isabel McConnell; and two great great grandchildren: June Wells and Grady Bryce Wells. She is preceded in death by her parents, Will and Florence Turner; two sisters: Dorothy Mae Rainwater and Wilma Anabell Kahler; one brother, Leroy Turner; granddaughter, Jamie Lynn McConnell and great grandson, Bryce Paul Harlow.
