Virginia B. Shropshire passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Eufaula, Oklahoma. She was born on November 29, 1928 in Yellville, Arkansas. Virginia was a long time resident of Hanna, Oklahoma.
She married Charley Shropshire in Ft. Smith, Arkansas on February 7, 1947. They were married 54 years and together they raised ten children.
Virginia lived to be ninety-five years old. Her first love was her family. Gathering at the farm for holidays and special events was the highlight of her day. All the gatherings included a homecooked meal. If you were lucky, fried potatoes, brown beans, and cornbread were included. The grandkids especially liked her crispy chicken strips or pancakes from scratch, but the meal loved by most was chocolate gravy and homemade biscuits.
The grandkids and great grandkids could always expect an exciting day at the farm. Grandma Gin was great with a water gun, had a deadly aim at corn hole, and might be caught speeding on her golf cart. At ninety-five on Easter Sunday, she was riding with grandson Darin on his razor around the yard. She was always up for a challenge. It was common knowledge that she climbed into the attic by herself to store Christmas decorations. The only thing we asked was for her to take a phone!
Virginia worked at Garrison's Grocery in Hanna, Howard Johnson's on the turnpike, and Eufaula Manor. She worked at the manor for over thirty years. She retired at the age of 86. During her employment, she won Oklahoma Activity Director of the Year.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charley Shropshire; two sons: Doug and Walter Shropshire; her son in-law, Jerry Majors; daughter in-law, Courtney Shropshire; grandson, Steven Fernandez; and parents, Walter and Janie Ott.
She is survived by eight children: Bobby Shropshire and Regina, Ann Majors, Linda Stafford and Mike, Brenda Starkey and John, Larry Shropshire and Loni, Sandy Haley and Tony, Karen Jones and Jeff, Kelly Shropshire and Tabitha Jaquay, Mike Berglund and Kelli, twenty grandkids, and twenty-seven great grandkids.
