Vester Virlis Downum, 78, of Bixby passed away on September 7, 2018. Vester was born on December 22, 1939 in Stidham, Oklahoma, the son of Christopher and Virgie Mae (Turner) Downum. Vester graduated from Stidham high school in 1957. On February 17, 1962, Vester married Louella Willmon at the Stidham Baptist Church. They were happily married for 54 years when she preceded him in death on December 8, 2016. He then attended Connors State College and graduated from Northeastern State University with his Masters. Vester loved to teach. He was a VoAg teacher and a principal at Hanna. He then was a carpentry teacher at Eufaula. Vester was a teacher for 29 years. He loved wood work, cabinetry, his grandchildren, and ice cream. Vester also enjoyed music, reading his bible and he found great faith in the Lord. Survivors include: his son, Von Downum, of Tulsa, OK; his daughter, Melody Carroll and husband Dennis of Bixby, OK; brothers, Charles Downum of Eufaula, and Albert Downum of Texas; 4 grandchildren: Trey Downum, Thomas R. McIntosh, Karissa McIntosh, and Christian McIntosh; and seven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Louella, his parents; sisters, Minnie Hallum, Dolly Downum, and Burdine Downum; and brothers, Buddy Downum, Lowelle Downum, Jessie Downum, and Billy Downum.
