Vernon was born on October 4, 1924 in Arapaho, Oklahoma the son of Aaron Clarence and Winnie (Wallis) Clawson. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for two years and three months during World War II. He later was in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and then activated where he served in during the Korean Conflict for twenty-one months. On January 12, 1946, Vernon married Margaret Emogene Wingo in McAlester. He worked for Tinker in civil service for thirty-five years as a quality control inspector. Vernon retired in 1978 and moved to Eufaula on April 27, 1980. He loved to fish and work in his yard. He would do odd jobs to entertain himself. Vernon attended the Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Survivors include: his wife, Margaret, of the home; his sons, Jerry Allen Clawson of Rogers, Arkansas and Stephen Ray Clawson and wife Sherry of Choctaw, Oklahoma; his daughter Loretta Jean McCoy and husband John of Oklahoma City; his sister, Anne Little and husband George of Lawrence, Kansas; his grandchildren, Shawn, Aaron, Cory, Kyndra, Quinn, Mick, Shelly and Clete and his step grandchildren, Stephanie, April, John Jr., Christie; his great grandchildren, Trevor, Westin, Lucas, Cory, Lakin, Dillon, Devin, Morgan, Kyler, Zach, Dakota, Jordan and Andrew, Tyler, Ashlyn, Isaac and Randy and a great great granddaughter Avery. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Elsie
