Tommy Gene Benson, 65, of Checotah, passed away on May 9, 2018 at the Eufaula Manor Nursing Home. Tom was born on March 10, 1953 in Checotah, Oklahoma to Tom Glen and Loretta (Hunter) Benson. In 1972, he graduated from McClain High School in Tulsa. Tom attended Connors State College. Tom worked as a structural engineering consultant. He served as a volunteer firefighter for the Pleak Fire Department in Pleak, Texas. Tom married Vicki Yarbrough on May 23, 2000 in Ft. Smith, AR. They were happily married for seventeen years. They lived in Needville, Texas until their retirement to Checotah in 2012. Survivors include: his wife, Vicki, of the home; sons: Chris Benson and Katie Kramer, of Tomball, TX; and Steve Avant, of Checotah, OK; daughter, Robin Thagard and husband, Jason, of Needville, TX; mother, Loretta Lawrence, of Chandler, OK; sisters: Michelle Houston, of Claremoore, OK, Melissa Partain, of Tulsa, OK, and Monica Benson, of Guthrie, OK; three grandchildren: Kyndal Thagard, Cody Thagard, and Aubrey Benson; and a host of cousins and extended family. He is preceded in death by his father, Tom G. Benson and brother, Christopher Dean.
