Shirley Jean Barton

Shirley Jean Barton, 83, of Checotah, passed away on February 10, 2019 at the St. Francis Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Shirley was born on June 24, 1935 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Roy Reginald and Lucille Marie (Jackson) Givens. She attended school in Midwest City, Oklahoma. She was a member of the Choraliers Glee Club and on the Bomber Beam Staff as Editor. Shirley worked as a clerk typist and secretary for twenty-two years at the Tinker Air Force Base. On May 26, 1972, she married Tilford James Barton II at the First Southern Baptist Church in Del City, Oklahoma. They were happily married for forty-six years. Shirley was a member of the North Fork Baptist Church. Survivors include: her husband, Tilford James Barton, II, of the home; sons: Rick Lee Scott and wife, Tina, of Norman, OK and Terry Wayne Scott and wife, Wendy, of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter, Tina Marie (Scott) Wulff, of Eufaula, OK; five grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lucille Givens; sister, JoAnn (Givens) Canady; and one step-son, Tilford James Barton.
