Samuel Isaac Quinton

May 17, 1927 — January 18, 2020

Samuel (Sam) Isaac Quinton passed away Saturday, January 18, 2020, at the age of 92 at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Sam was born on May 17, 1927, to Ike and Mae (Farmer) Quinton in Texanna, Oklahoma. Sam grew up and attended school in Texanna where he lived and maintained a residence for most of his adult life. Sam joined the United States Army on September 13, 1945 and received an honorable discharge upon the completion of his service. After his service, he worked in his father's grocery stores in Miami, Oklahoma and Texanna. Work took him away from Texanna for a few years working for a Miami Glass Company as a glazier and later as a roughneck in the West Texas Oil Fields. Sam returned to Texanna during the 1950's and began a career in the construction industry. He joined the Laborers International Union of North America. He took pride in the many projects he helped construct which included the Eufaula Dam, the Kerr Dam at Sallisaw and many commercial buildings and manufacturing plants in Muskogee. After his retirement, Sam became an avid Striper fisherman and enjoyed and valued the many friendships that developed with fellow fishermen who gathered at daylight below the Eufaula Dam. He liked to be the first one there each morning and to make the first catch of the day. Sam was a charter member of the Lindsey Chapel Baptist Church. He truly enjoyed living at Texanna near his family and friends until it became necessary for him to move to Muskogee where he resided next door to his sister. Survivors include: his son, Matthew Quinton, of Porum, OK; his step daughter, Darlene Qualls; his brother, Billy D. Quinton and wife Patty of Weleetka, OK; his sister, Janice Olzawski of Muskogee, OK; and a special friend, Ruby Duke. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ike and Mae Quinton, brothers, John Quinton and Clint Quinton, sisters, Neva Meckel and twin sisters, Lucille Warren and Louise Palmer.
