Russell Ward Girod

Russell Ward Girod, 65, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 30, 2020, at the Hillcrest Hospital South. Russell was born on January 6, 1955, in San Francisco, California, the son of Roy Russell and Barbara Nell (Ward) Girod. He graduated from Glenpool High School. Russell was an entrepreneur. Some of his ventures were Round the World Gifts, Cinema Review for twenty-five years and then ACE Storm Shelters for five years. He also worked as a railroad conductor for thirty-seven years, retiring in 2015. On November 30, 1984, Russell married Helena McIntosh. They were happily married for thirty-five years. He was a member of the Battle Creek Church in Broken Arrow, serving on the Hello Team. Russell loved to fish and come up with new businesses. He was always ready to help anyone in need. Russell pampered his wife by creating a beautiful oasis in their backyard. His dad would be proud. Russell was always ready to travel and cruise. He had lived in Germany with his parents, sister, and brother. He wanted to take his wife to all the countries he had seen. They were able to go to Italy. Survivors include: his mother, Barbara Girod, of Glenpool; his wife, Helena Girod of the home; his son, Gerald Scott Girod and wife Cynthia of Broken Arrow; his daughter, Maria Suzette Gillespie and husband Bill of Coweta; his brother, Paul Girod and wife Johnna of Tulsa; his sister, Darla Fleming and husband Rick of Tulsa; his grandchildren, Daniel Wall, Christina Himes, Marc Gillespie, David Girod, Autumn Girod, and Tristan Gillespie; his great grandchildren, Andie Dozier, Liam Himes, Payton Himes, Siah Wall and Paul Wall; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Roy Girod. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in Russell's name.
