Russell Lloyd Reed, 83, passed away Monday, January 2nd, 2023, in Tulsa, OK. Russell was born on June 24th, 1939, to Lloyd Garfield and Dortha Ruth (Morrison) Reed. He graduated from Stidham High School in 1958. He joined the military in August of 1959. He selected the Army as his choice of military branch. He was shipped to Ft. Hamilton NY where he underwent Boot camp and AIT. Active service consisted of 2 years stateside, 1 ½ years abroad in Germany. Russell’s unit was Battery C 3rd Gun Battalion 39th Artillery. He and his unit were responsible for movement, placement and firing of Strategic Long-Range Cannon. Russell drove the Army M1070 Heavy Equipment Transporter Truck. Russell returned from Germany and finished out his duty in the Army Reserves. Russell was completely discharged in August of 1965. While in the Army he received Sharpshooter status and always recognized for his shined boots, Uniform clean lines and spit shined equipment used to carry around officers.
Russell married Norma Louise Nixon of Stidham, Ok on November 24, 1962. In 1965 Russell started driving with Jones Truck Lines in Tulsa OK. He was employed with Jones for 25 years. During his work with Jones, he had an impeccable safety record receiving countless safe driving awards. After the close of Jones Truck Lines, Russell went to work with Con-Way Southeast out of Tulsa OK. He pulled Triples from Tulsa to Dallas for 11 years. Totaling over 36 years of employment as a Professional Driver. After retirement in 2001, Russell and Norma moved back to Lenna OK to help care for their mothers Dortha and Nadine until there passing. During his retirement, Russell was involved in a local Tractor club where he restored an antique Farmall tractor. He won several awards and would drive it in local parades and community outings.
Russell is survived by his wife Norma Reed, of the home; Son Randy Reed and wife Cindy of Fayetteville, Ar; Grandchildren, Lindsey Kantola of Tulsa, Ok, Shane Reed and wife Sara of Wagoner, Ok, Chelsea Fanning and McKenzie of West Fork, Ar, Cassidy Foster and Dilan of Elkins, Ar, Cailey Reed of Fayetteville Ar; and twelve great grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his son Brian; parents, Dortha and Lloyd Reed; sister Barbara Lambert; and one great grandchild, Luna Reed.
