Nora Mae Shanafelt, 97, of Lenexa, Kansas, formerly of Eufaula, passed away on June 19, 2019 in Olathe, Kansas. Nora was born on August 25, 1921 in Sperry, Oklahoma to Jasper N. and Anna Clara (Brinkman) Hughes. She graduated from Sperry High School in 1939. On February 28, 1942, Nora married Denver Shanafelt in Owasso, Oklahoma. They were happily married for almost fifty-two years, before he preceded her in death on January 6, 1994. She worked as a homemaker and took care of her family. Nora was also a certified sign language interpreter for courts. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren and fishing. Nora was a member of a quilting group in McAlester and Eufaula. She was an active member of the Eufaula First United Methodist Church. Survivors include: sons: Joe Shanafelt and wife, Jackie, of Shawnee, KS; and Gary Shanafelt and wife, Phillipa, of Poquoson, VA; two sisters: Louise Summers, of Claremore, OK; and Dorothy Hale, of Katy, TX; eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Clara Hughes; her husband, Denver Shanafelt; daughter, Suzanne Shanafelt; and son, Glen Shanafelt.
