Nathan Dale Mayhar

October 6, 1936 — January 7, 2016

Nathan Dale Mayhar, 79, of Eufaula, Oklahoma went home to be with the Lord on January 7, 2016. Dale was born October 6, 1936 in Stephenville, Texas to William Mac and Ophelia Agnes (McKnight) Mayhar. Dale worked in the newspaper print business and was employed with the Stephenville Daily Empire, Odessa American Drill Bit Magazine and The Odessa American before moving to Dewar, Oklahoma in 1965. There he went to work at the Henryetta Daily Free-lance as Advertising Manager. Dale then moved to Okemah to be the General Manager of Okfuskee Publications, Inc. Next he was employed at the Okmulgee Daily Times as the Advertising Manager and then back to the Henryetta Free-lance as the General Manager. In 1973 Dale founded the Lake Eufaula World, with Bill Torbett, where he worked tirelessly to promote Lake Eufaula, what he thought to be one of Oklahoma"s greatest and most beautiful attractions. A member of the Oklahoma Press Association, Dale was presented with numerous awards and accolades for his service to the community and local organizations during his newspaper career. He made sure his newspaper represented every resident of the Lake Eufaula area whether it was in advertising for a new business owner or by a snapshot of a proud little boy with his sand bass. Dale not only invested in his community but also in many people on a personal level. He made a difference in many lives and that was the greatest award that he ever earned. Dale sold The Lake Eufaula World in 1991, then opened and operated an antique shop in Eufaula. He was an avid arrowhead and coin collector as well. Dale was a Korean War Army veteran serving active duty from October 1954 to October 1957. In addition, he was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of the Eastern Star, Kiwanis, VFW, Jaycees, American Legion and other local organizations as well as the Brush Hill Baptist Church.
