Mitchell (Mitch) Roy Yahola Thompson of Eufaula, Oklahoma died on June 24, 2014. He was born June 29, 1970 in Portland, Oregon to Stanley E. Thompson and Barbara Martin. He was eight years old when the family moved to be closer to his namesake, Josephine Ella (Mama) Mitchell in Stidham, Oklahoma, where he grew up in the countryside with numerous cousins. In 1985 the family moved to La Grande, Oregon where he graduated from high school. He spent a number of years in Oregon where he was a certified nurse"s assistant helping to care for the elderly. His gentle and compassionate nature made him a favorite among the patients and staff. He treated everyone with dignity; it was his tender heart that made him seek other employment, often as a bartender or construction worker. He had admirable skills in construction with an aesthetic eye, and he took great pride in remodeling a Victorian house in the Portland area where he was able to maintain its character while upgrading its structural integrity. He moved to the Hell"s Canyon area when his father and stepmother decided to open an inn in Halfway, Oregon. After the death of his father he moved back to Oklahoma to help care for his elderly grandparents, Anna Mae Miller (Mitchell) and Roy E. Miller. The latter passed in July of 2013. He is survived by his mother Barbara Martin, sister Stacy Campbell; and brother, Scott Wertman all of Sandy, Oregon. He is also survived by his grandmother Anna Mae Miller of Eufaula, Oklahoma, his step brothers, Graham Pinard of McCall, Idaho and Andrew Pinard of Halfway, Oregon, as well as countless other family and friends. He was a gentle soul who would give a home to a three-legged cat, a willing hand to a friend, and a kind word with hugs when needed. His sweet smile will be forever missed.
