Minnie Lou Whitehead, 93, of Checotah, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the Checotah Nursing Home. Minnie Lou was born on March 27, 1919, in Heavener, Oklahoma the daughter of Henry S. and Martha (Dunn) Hale. She attended Kathy School. In March 1943, Minnie Lou married John Baily Sexton. Minnie Lou later married Willis Mann in Checotah. He preceded her in death in May 1952. Minnie then married Loy Whitehead in 1954 in Stigler, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death in September 2000. Minnie was very active in all the communities that she lived including Texanna, Stigler, Checotah and Kinta. In 1979, she was a member of the Emergency Medical Technicians Oklahoma Trauma Research Society. She received the Edgar Memorial Gold Medal for Distinguished Public Service in 1984. In Haskell County, Minnie Lou received an outstanding award for the KiBois RSVP program for fifteen years of dedication, labor and support at Prayer Mountain. Minnie was a member of the Faith Temple Church. She served as Chaplin for twenty-seven years at the McIntosh County Jail and was a minister for the Haskell County Jail. Survivors include: her son, F.D. Sexton, of Checotah; her daughter, Nellie Crawford of Tulsa; and her sister, Marie Swope Jackson of Dickson, Tennessee; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Jimmie Faye.
