Mina (Harjo) Phillips

Mina was born on October 2, 1928 at Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Jeanetty Fox and Legus Harjo. She was orphaned around five years of age and lived with friends and family members in the Sapulpa, Oklahoma area. Her uncle, Sandy Fox, came and took her and she lived with him from then on in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She attended school at Monte Cassino through 11th grade in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was baptized at an early age. On June 5, 1947, she married Daniel Phillips Jr. at Columbus, Kansas. She was a homemaker. She worked at Elsings Sewing Factory in Eufaula, Oklahoma and Arrowhead in Canadian, Oklahoma. She was a member of New Arbor Indian Baptist Church, Eufaula, Oklahoma. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, reading, bingo, playing basketball, softball and baseball stepping in to play when a player was needed. She also enjoyed the casino. Because of her childhood, she loved her children more and loved even more her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her great- great grandson. She enjoyed family activities and spending time with all of her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rev. Daniel Phillips Jr., granddaughters Chana Loma and Kamdyn Middleton, daughter Jena (Phillips) Loma and sons-in-law Jackey L. Bedford and Daniel D. Deere and half-brothers, Jackson Harjo and Lewis Harjo. She is survived by her daughters, Ramona (Phillips) Bedford, Twanna (Phillips) Deere, Amanda (Phillips) Middleton, and son-in-law, Rev. Kenneth Loma, grandchildren Michael Deere, Daniel James Deere, William A Middleton III, Michelle Deere, Shawna Deere, grandson Eric Merrell, great grandchildren Tiarra Deere, Daniel Jaye Deere, Lauryn Hill, Arrow Deere, and Earnest Shade fifth generation great-great grandson Adrian Martin.
