Michael Jerome (Mike) Smith was born on April 24, 1948 to Emanuel and Lassie Smith. He grew up in Eufaula and other than traveling for work was happy to call McIntosh County his home. Mike had a long career as a heavy equipment operator working on oil and gas pipelines and traveled within the U.S. and even to Australia and Venezuela on pipeline jobs. He was also a skilled, self-taught craftsman. From building homes, to crafting furniture, to cooking and sewing, he enjoyed working with his hands. Mike loved his family and his friends, treasured his time on his land, and was a strong independent man. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Jackie Smith. He is survived by his daughters, Melissa Garner and her husband Grant of Oklahoma City, Stephanie Dawson and her husband Kevin of Eufaula, his mother Lassie, his brothers Floyd, Bruce, Wesley and Rex, and his sisters, Kay Burns, Connie Brinlee, Cathie Burns, Carla Brockman and Cynthia Smith. Mike is also survived by five grandsons, all of whom he was so proud of: Garrett Garner, Garrison Garner, Daxton Powell, Dakota Powell and Payton Dawson, and a great-grandson Wyatt Powell. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law and sisters-in law and lifelong friends. Mike was much loved and will be greatly missed.
