Melvin E. Helms

Melvin Elias Helms, 85, of Eufaula, passed away on October 25, 2018 at his home. He was born on August 29, 1933 in Jennings, Oklahoma to Edward Lee and May Belle (Mabel)(Counts) Helms. Melvin graduated from Stidham High School in 1953. On August 30, 1956, he married Ella June (Martin) Helms in Mellette, Oklahoma. They were happily married for sixty-two years. In 1959, Melvin received his Radio and Television Tech Degree from Okmulgee. He worked at the Fredlo Farms in Arvin, California as the Farm Foreman for fourteen years. In 1972, he returned to Eufaula and in 1982 founded Helms Construction and ran cattle for the remainder of his life. Melvin was the Eufaula Round Up Club founding Member and President. He was also a devoted member of the Eufaula Church of Christ. Melvin took the most joy in watching his grandchildren at their many activities and sports. He was so proud of their achievements. Survivors include: his wife, Ella June Helms, of the home; sons: Melvin Dewayne Helms and wife, Shelly; Rodney Helms and wife, Becky; and Stacey Helms and wife, Christy, all of Eufaula; brother, Doug Helms and wife, Pat, of Checotah, OK; sister, Geneva Stark, of Wilburton, OK; sister in-law, Monnie Helms of, Broken Arrow, OK; six grandchildren: Rodney Lee Helms, Jr. and wife, Grace, Rusty Helms, Brooke Helms, Audra Helms-Deckard and husband, Blake, Matt Helms, and Dylan Helms; and two great grandchildren: Harper Helms and Heath Helms. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Marvena Ginn, Loeta McNatt, and Juanita Adams; and brothers: Lloyd Helms, Audie Helms, Leroy Helms, and Leo Helms.
