She was born on June 3, 1917, in McAlester, OK at her grandmother"s house. Her parents were Dr. Edward H. and Mary Della Gleason. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Palmer of Checotah, OK, on December 27, 1967. She was married to Bob Knox in 1993 and he passed away in 2005. For the last 12 years Dolores lived at Butterfield Place Retirement in Ft. Smith, AR. She is survived by her son, Charles (Barbara) Palmer, Ft. Smith, AR, her daughter, Pat (Jack) Thomas, Highland Village, TX, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Dolores Palmer"s parents died when she was a child. At that time, she went to live with her Aunt Callie and Uncle Harold Ely in Muskogee, OK. It was there, she became a Christian and was baptized in the First Baptist Church in Muskogee. After high school graduation, she went to business school with the money given to her from her grandmother"s civil war pension. While working at the Baptist Hospital in Muskogee, she met Arthur Palmer and married him on February 20, 1938. They lived in Checotah, OK where Arthur had a general store and late a furniture store, in which she worked. Dolores was an active leader in the First Baptist Church, Checotah, OK for over 50 years. She was a teacher in Sunday school, a leader of the Girls Auxiliary, and women"s Missionary Union. She attended the Baptist World Alliance in Japan and Russia. She went on mission trips to South America and Mexico with World Neighbors. She was still witnessing for Christ in her last days here.
