Major Marvin Joel Scoggins, 83, of Eufaula, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018 at his home. Marvin was born on August 14, 1934, at Wilburton, Oklahoma, the son of George Washington Dewey and Elizabeth (Chapman) Scoggins. He attended Wilburton Public Schools and graduated from Venice High School in Venice, California in 1954. Marvin enlisted in the United States Air Force on October 7, 1955 in Los Angeles. He served during the Vietnam War as a major and pilot and transferred to the Reserves on November 26, 1967. He was honorably discharged on November 11, 1986. On July 12, 1963, Marvin married H. Joyce Cotton in Plattsburgh, New York. They were happily married for fifty-four years. Marvin was a member of the Eufaula Masonic Lodge for over forty years. He was a founder and life member of the Eufaula VFW Post 8798 serving as the post's first charter commander. Survivors include: his wife, Joyce, of the home; his sons, Steve Scoggins and wife Darlene of Pottsville, Arkansas, Jim Scoggins and wife Megan of Houston and John Scoggins and wife Carrie of Medford, Oregon; his daughters, Sheila Scoggins Wells and husband Eric of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Sheri Scoggins of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Stacy Scoggins of Eufaula, Oklahoma; his brother, Charles Scoggins and wife Margaret of Heavener, Oklahoma and his sister, Clara Clark and husband Ronnie of Hartshorne, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers and sisters, Georgia, Lorene "Nita", W.E. "Pete", George W. Dewey, Jr. "Moody", Lois, and Cecil Earl. Memorial contributions may be made to the McIntosh County Shriners.
