On Wednesday, January 6, at 8:00 p.m., Marguerite Schmitt, took her last breath on this earth surrounded by her children and other family members. She died peacefully of congestive heart failure. Marguerite Palmer Bridges Schmitt was born on November 15, 1929 to Thomas Henry "T.H." and Myrtle (Collins) Palmer. A lifelong resident of Eufaula, she graduated from Eufaula High School in 1948. She married Max Bridges in 1948 after a four year courtship in junior high and high school. They were married thirty-one years and three children were born of this marriage: Teresa Lee, Randall Max, and Mary Joanna. She was a 50 year church pianist for Checotah First Baptist Church, Eufaula First Baptist Church, First Free Will Baptist Church and occasionally Sulpher Springs Baptist Church both of Eufaula. She taught piano lessons in various parts of McIntosh County. In 1981, she became manager of the Eufaula Memorial Library for fourteen years, a job she dearly loved. She resigned from the library in 1993. This gave her time to visit her grandchildren in Oklahoma City, Eufaula, Springfield, MO and Dallas, TX. Her family is grateful for the friends that bought her lunch and dinner at her two favorite eating places, Cox's Chicken and Boom-a-Rang. She loved walking from her house on First Street to Boom-a-Rang. She had great friends, like her best friend, Nina Stewart of Checotah, Donna Naler of Ione, WA, Jan Long of Newcastle, Jodie and Kelly Cox of Cox's Chicken, her Church family and so many others. Marguerite loved telling jokes and writing poetry, particularly poems for the library summer reading program. She even had a published book of poetry. Survivors include: daughter, Teresa Butler and husband, John, of Eufaula; daughter, Joanna Taylor and husband, Gary Don, of Okarche; son Randy Bridges, of Eufaula; grandchildren: Kyle Coleman (Teresa's son), of Dallas, TX; Brendon Bridges and wife, Erin (Randy's son); Whitlea Loftis and husband, Chris, of Springfield, MO (Randy's daughter); Jaycee, Jacob and Payden Taylor (Joanna's children); great grandchildren: Maddox, Max Joseph, and Mavrix Bridges (Brendon's children); Everett Loftis (Whitlea's son) and many nieces and nephews. Marguerite plans to see all of you at some later date. Praise the Lord! She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Palmer, Sr. and all of her brothers and sisters.
