Magdalene Nelson, 66, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Monday, October 12, 2020, at the St. Francis Hospital of Muskogee. Magdalene was born on June 27, 1954, in Phoenix, Arizona, the daughter of James Burkes and Mary Barnett. She graduated from Muskogee High School in 1972. She worked for Muskogee Public Schools for twenty-three years as a para- professional in special education. She enjoyed crocheting, teaching and crafts. Magdalene was a member of the First Indian Baptist Church of Muskogee. She was a member of the Native Praise Choir Group of Tahlequah. Magdalene worked with the Muskogee Indian Community Center. She is survived by: her sons, Keith "Ca'te" Nelson of Muskogee and Jon Nelson and wife Vanessa of Tecumseh; her daughter, Rachel Denny and husband Milt "Charlie" of Owasso; her sisters, Ella Barnett of Sun Lakes, AZ and Jeanie Walrath of Gainesville, MO; her grandchildren, Marc Cruz II, Ceilara Nelson, Thrysten Nelson, Leah Nelson, Daelyn Denny, Teigan Denny, Jordon Nelson and Noah Nelson; her great grandchildren, Cesalie Nelson and Marc Cruz III. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Freeman Mitchell and a sister, Jeanna Barnett.
