Mac Whitson

June 13, 1941 — June 21, 2023

Mac Duane Whitson, Muscogee Creek Indian, passed away June 21, 2023, in McKinney, Texas at the age of 82. He was born to Johnnie and Lahoma (McIntosh) Whitson on June 13, 1941, in Fame, Oklahoma.

Mac attended Stidham schools, and finished his Sr. year at McAlester High School, graduating in the Class of 1959. He attended Bacone College on a basketball scholarship. On March 19, 1960, he married his love Karen Doyle in McAlester, Oklahoma. They were married for 63 years.

He was a former associate of J.C. Penney. Mac retired in 1998 after a 35 year career that took him across the country in a number of roles. He was a true leader, mentor, coach, and made many lifelong friendships at JCP.

He enjoyed reading Spy novels and political thrillers, imagining himself an assassin or the greatest undercover agent. He raised prize winning Arabian show and race horses. He loved vintage cars and watching any and all sports with his daughter Shari. The WCWS winning OU Women’s softball team was his favorite. Mac was also a member of “McRAT’S”(McKinney Retired Active Texans), where he enjoyed great friendships and activities.

Mac’s greatest passion was his grandchildren Tom and Karen. The joy they gave him was immeasurable. He never missed a game, event, or moment of their lives.
