Luther Boykins was the first child born to Johnnie Boykins and Clara Redman. He attended public schools in Arkansas and Oklahoma. Luther accepted Christ at an early age, attending Walls AME Church as a child and later joined Wayland Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. Luther served in the United States Army during World War II and received an honorable discharge in 1947. He then worked a a brick layer for more than 50 years nationwide with the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, primarily in Michigan, Nebraska and Missouri. Luther was active in the Prince Hall Mason, a member of the Nathaniel Hunter Lodge #12 since 1955, the Joshua David Kelly Rosary #27, the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Free Masonry since 1962, a member of the Zaha Temple #52, and the Prince Hall Shriners since 1963 all while in Omaha, Nebraska. He was active with the NAACP and the Eufaula Senior Citizens Center until his health began to fail. Luther Boykins will always be known for his grace, flamboyant style of dress and his charming personality. He married Eula Gregory on June 26, 1970 and no children were born to their union. He was preceded in death by his parents, and all of his siblings, William Boykins, Colorado Boykins, Cecilia (Boykins) Giles, James Floyd, Henry Floyd, Daniel Floyd, Charles Floyd, Benjamin Floyd and Mrs. Lucille Felton of Inkster, Michigan a long time friend. He was called home on October 6, 2017 and he leaves to cherish his memory: three sisters in law, Carmen (El Paso), Marlene and Geneva (Detroit), and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephew, cousins and friends who will carry on his great legacy.
