Leon Burns, 86, of Burnsville, passed away peacefully Monday, March 28, 2022. Leon was born on July 23rd, 1935 in Mellette, Oklahoma to Woodrow and Sally (Kennedy) Burns. He graduated from Eufaula High School in 1953. Leon married his longtime friend and love, Wilma Dean Martin, on December 11, 1954. He has worked as a coal miner, farmer, heavy equipment operator, cowboy and in road construction. Leon enjoyed spending time with his family, feeding vanilla cookies to his favorite dog Fefe, telling stories about the good old days, hunting especially elk, fishing, and sitting around the campfire in Colorado. He was a member and elder of the Burns Chapel Church of God in Mellette, Oklahoma. He was also faithfully involved in the church and helped out wherever needed, sometimes standing in as pastor and bible study leader. Leon is survived by his wife, Wilma, of the home; sons: Stephen Burns and wife Judy, and Alan Burns and wife Susie, all of Mellette, Oklahoma; brothers: Robert Burns of Eufaula, Oklahoma and Eber Burns and wife Verona, of Dustin; grandchildren; Jimmy Burns and wife Paula, Jason Burns and wife Kandrea, Tina Burns and husband Rob, Amanda Burns and husband Brian, and A.J. Burns and Wife Dana; great grandchildren; Emily, Ethan, Hannah, Tristen, Kyler, Daxton and wife Autumn, Gracie and Wyatt; great great grandchildren; Zade, Zailey, and Kace; and a host of family and friends that he loved. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, R.L. Burns and Charles Burns.
