Leon Armstrong

June 22, 1931 — July 22, 2017

Leon was born on June 22, 1931, in Mellette, Oklahoma, the son of James Armstrong and Artie Cox Armstrong. He started grade school at 42 Oklahoma and moved to Artussee in 1941 where he then attended school until the 8th grade. He graduated from Modesto High School in 1950. Leon took several engineering course at various colleges and worked for the U.S. Government doing Engineering. He retired from the government in 1983. On March 9, 1983, Leon married Dorothy Mae Messick in Porterville, California. They were happily married for twenty-eight years. Survivors include: his son, Leon Dee of California, stepsons, Terry Lee Hatcher of Checotah, Oklahoma, and Joe Don Bunton of Arkansas; his step-daughter, Patsy L. (Bunton) Hilton of Quinton; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy Armstrong, his sons, Noel Eugene Armstrong and James Bunton; his daughter, Patsy Armstrong Kilman; his stepsons, Gene Allen Bunton, and Rick Bunton; his brother, Lawrence Armstrong; and his sisters, Lorene Reaves, Frankie Keeling, Norma Hunter and Clara Mae Armstrong. A graveside service was held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 27, 2017, at the Greenlawn Cemetery with Reverend Tim Allen officiating. Services were under the direction of Hunn, Black, & Merritt Funeral Home & Crematory. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hbmfuneralhome.com.
