Kaniah Jean Mcintosh

December 28, 1932 — October 29, 2012

Kaniah Jean McIntosh went home to be with the Lord, October 29, 2012, after battling a lengthy illness in Muskogee. She was born December 28th, 1932 in Fame, OK to Ethel and Boney McIntosh, who preceded her in death. She was the second of (4) daughters. She married George McIntosh June 13th, 1953 in Okmulgee, OK and lived in Muskogee the remainder of their lives. George and Kaniah celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary @ First Baptist Church, Muskogee in June 2003. George preceded Kaniah in death April 2009. Kaniah attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK and received her Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1955. She later received her Masters of Teaching from NSU in 1960. She taught in the Muskogee School System from 1954 until her retirement in 1988. Kaniah is most remembered by family, friends and former students from teaching 2nd grade @ Tony Goetz Elementary, where she began in 1960. She has had visits from several former students since that time right up to her death. Kaniah was an avid supporter of furthering education and was strongly opposed to any state cuts in education. Her support was never more visible than when she displayed her now famous sign, “Dust Bowl Education or Academic Excellence”. Kaniah will also be remembered as one of the most loving, giving persons that has ever lived. She was a wonderful christian, and balanced work and family as well as anyone could. Kaniah was known for her impeccable cooking skills and delicious family recipes, some of which were from the turn of the century that she perfected through the years. Kaniah is survived by (2) children, Margie of Cookeville, TN and Jim of Dallas, TX. Grandson Josh of Neosho, MO and (2) sisters, Wanaka of Arlington, TX and Wacola of Pokemoke City, MD, and preceded in death by her oldest sister Cheynnea. She is survived by many cousins, nephews, nieces and other relatives.
