June was born on September 19, 1931 in Fame, Oklahoma the son of Jesse Lee and Ruth Houston (Self) Edwards. He graduated from Stidham High School and received his Associate’s degree from Okmulgee Tech as an electrician. On December 12, 1952, June married Retha L. Brackett. They were happily married fifty-nine years. June enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during Vietnam. He retired from the Air Force on January 3, 1970. He was a patriotic man who would do anything for anybody. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked at several different jobs including the Alaska Pipeline, long-haul trucking, an electrician and a postman for the Eufaula post office. June loved his wife, daughters and grandchildren, traveling to China with Cheryl when she brought her second daughter home. He custom made furniture for each of his grandchildren. June was a nineteen year heart transplant survivor. His doctor referred to him as “Cat man” because of his “nine lives”. He was a survivor and had a strong will to live. He enjoyed spending time outdoors mowing. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #1 and also the Eufaula First Baptist Church where he served many years as a deacon.
