Joyce Jeanne Haight, 97, of Eufaula passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024. Joyce was born on August 20,1927 in Holdenville, Ok. Joyce was the daughter of Ernest and Mildred Erwin. She attended Oklahoma A&M and received her bachelor's degree in home economics in 1948. In May 1948 she married Morgan Everett Haight and moved to Lake Charles, LA. then later to New Orleans where she began her teaching career in Jefferson Parish.
She received her master's degree from Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana of her 30 plus from Nicholls State University in Thibodeaux, Louisiana, with over 30 years teaching 2nd grade and as principal at John Clancy Elementary. She retired in 1980 and moved back home to Eufaula.
After retiring, Joyce lived in Mill Creek and then moved to Bridgeport Dunes in 1999. She attended the Checotah United Methodist Church and volunteered for many years at their thrift shop. Joyce enjoyed sewing and cooking. She was known for her homemade bread where she made hundreds of loaves and gave them to her neighbors as well as making red beans & rice, gumbo and jambalaya for social events at the clubhouse. Joyce was a honorary member of FLEAS and was active with the Bridgeport Dunes Social Committee.
Survivors include her daughter Mildred (Millie) Swan of Eufaula, Ok. one sister Carolyn Aingell of Tulsa, Ok. nieces and nephews; Sherry James, Layne Aingell, Matt Aingell and Bob Aingell. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents and one brother J.E. Erwin (1989).
