John was born on November 25, 1928, in Junction City, Kansas, the son of Ralph Benine and Elsie Mae (Olson) Meyer. He graduated from Junction City High School in 1946. John enlisted in the United States Army serving in the Korean War. After working many different jobs all his life, he worked as a supervisor in the parts warehouse for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas for over 20 years. He retired from Boeing in 1992. John lived in several different Oklahoma towns after his retirement including, Cherokee, Wilburton and Longtown. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. On September 7, 1996, John married Elizabeth Ann Woods in Cherokee, Oklahoma. They were happily married for twenty years. John"s wife, Elizabeth, always said she thought she married "The Great White Hunter" as John was big into hunting and fishing all his life. Every fall he would gather his deer hunting gear, sighting in his rifle, and making sure he was ready for "Deer Season". John also enjoyed traveling this beautiful country of ours on his Honda Goldwing Motorcycle. One of his favorite places to visit was Yellowstone National Park. He was also a world traveler as he visited Europe and Australia while in the Korean War, Cancun Mexico, in 1994, and then Philippines in the spring of 1996. He also loved aviation and was a pilot of small aircraft even owning one while living in Kansas and working at Boeing. His favorite airplane was a P-51 Mustang from WWII. Survivors include: his wife, Elizabeth, of the home; his children, Steve and wife Diane Meyer of High Rolls, NM, Mindy Rupp Meyer of Dallas, TX, Scott and wife Teri Meyer of Fallon, NV, Delores Hughes of Grayson, GA, Christina Cannon of McAlester, OK and Trey Cannon of McAlester, OK. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his parents and a sister and brother in law, Sylvia and Jerry Fahring.
