Jerry Lee Beaird, 79, of Eufaula passed away in Tulsa on April 19, 2023. Jerry was born April 26, 1943, in Checotah, OK, to Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Beaird.
Jerry grew up in the Checotah area, attending school in Pierce, Victor and Checotah. Jerry always did things his way, having fun as he did so. He was the drummer in a rock and roll band, Dynamics, with his high school friends. In 1962, Jerry married Judy Kaye Anson. He and his young wife began their life together, growing up along the way. Three years later, they added Leeah, a beautiful little girl who would complete their family and continue their growth.
Jerry started his career as a Union Ironworker on missile bases in Conway, AR, and Minot, ND. Later his skill led to his work on the Flaming Gorge Dam in Utah and the Vertical Assembly Building at CAPE Canaveral, Fl. Once their daughter started school, he and Judy settled back in Checotah. In 1978, Jerry and his brother, Rodger founded Galaxy Steel successfully selling and installing prefabricated steel buildings. Eventually, Jerry and Judy relocated to Eufaula and founded Superior Steel Buildings an enterprise which manufactured pre-engineered metal buildings.
Although Jerry had a strong work ethic, he always made time for hobbies, which included street cars, flying, boating, RVing with his uncle, and golfing and going to the gym with his buddies . One year-long adventure led to the launching of their boat at the Port of Muskogee and navigating the Arkansas River to the Mississippi River into New Orleans for Mardi Gras before continuing on to Florida. Later, they traveled up the rivers to return to Oklahoma.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Judy Kaye (Anson) Beaird of the home; his daughter Leeah Kaye Calvert of Bixby, OK; his granddaughter Misti Dawn Stephens and husband Joshua Putnam and their children Rowen and Rory of Tulsa, OK; grandson Devon Bartling and children Shane and Brooklyn of Eufaula, OK; brother Rodger Beaird and wife Cora of Checotah, OK; sisters Regina Shropshire and husband Bobby of Eufaula, OK; Dovie Smith of Nashville, TN; and Lydia Underhill and husband Glen of Checotah,OK; many nieces and nephews, as well as extended family.
