James Lee Poindexter, 49, of Eufaula, passed away on October 11, 2014 at the Eastar Medical Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma. James was born on June 21, 1965 in Van Nuys, California to Jimmie Lee and Ella Mae (Self) Poindexter. He served for over four years as a United States Marine Reserve. James received his Associate"s Degree and his Bachelor"s Degree in Criminal Justice from Connor"s State University. He worked as a police officer in Eufaula for two years and then as the Town Marshal in Hanna before working as a Detective for twelve years for the Lawton Police Department, receiving the Officer of the Year Award for 2000 and 2003. James started a Crime Stoppers Program and a Citizens Police Academy. He also enjoyed teaching martial arts, being a rescue diver, and was on the Lawton S.W.A.T Team. James was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Eufaula, Oklahoma. Survivors include: his mother and step father, Ella and Frank Green, of Eufaula, OK; his cherished sweetheart, Veronika Vasilkovich; sisters: dearly loved, Amy Poindexter and fiancé, Brett McQuigg; Stephanie Wilson Fremin and husband, Joe; Sophia Poindexter; Dolores Poindexter; and Sylvia Kasch and husband, Dustin; brothers: Joshua Poindexter, Stewart Poindexter, Michael Poindexter, and William Poindexter; step daughters: Rachel Calvin, of Florida; and Rebecca Wallace, of Tulsa, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family as well as so many friends and loved ones. He is preceded in death by his father, Jimmie Lee Poindexter.
