Jackson Lee Barnett Sr, 85, Mvskoke language speaker, proud Muscogee Creek citizen, veteran, father, and grandfather. Jackson passed away Friday, March 11th, 2022, in Saint Johns Hospital. He was born on June 26, 1936, to Toney and Rhoda (Cato) Barnett. Jackson attended Litchfield Park High School in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1957, Jackson enlisted in the United States Navy where he served overseas on the U.S.S Shangri-La CVA-38, Early Warning Squadron 11, and Guided Missile Unit 55. He married Peggy Sarracino in 1963. To this union four boys were born. He attended Bacone College, where he lettered in track & field, and basketball, and received his associates degree. He then attended UCLA in 1970, and in 1983 attended Central UCO where he attained a Bachelors degree in the Science Trade and Industrial Education. Jackson was a teacher and welder for 50 years. He worked at Creek Nation as a Senior Services Manager from 2004 to 2012. He loved to fish, play sports, attend stomp dances, spend time with his grandchildren, and was a softball pitcher for years, and loved teaching Creek language. He is survived by his sons; Jackson Barnett Jr. of Yukon, Timothy Barnett of Moore, Brandon Barnett of Okmulgee, and Bradley Barnett and wife Regina of Laurel, Maryland. Grandchildren; Kaira Barnett, Forrest Barnett, Shelby Barnett, and Keaton Barnett. Great-Grandchildren; Anthony, Nicholas, Kayla, Braden, Kasen, and Nylah. Jackson is preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Mary Barnett and Stella Barnett, brothers; Robert (Buster) Barnett, Bill Barnett, and Benjamin Barnett, and granddaughter Kylie Barnett. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 18, 2022 at the Kelley Memorial Chapel in Eufaula, OK. Burial will follow at the Greenwood cemetery in Eufaula under the direction of Hunn, Black, & Merritt Funeral Home & Crematory.
