Irma Lee McCalvey, 100, of Eufaula, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2023. Irma was born on April 11, 1923, in Ink, Arkansas, the daughter of Jake and Ella Camille (Embry) Edwards. She attended school in Mena, Arkansas up to the 9th grade. Irma worked as a saleswoman in retail for twenty-five years. In 1975, she received her GED. Irma married Cornelius McCalvey on May 19, 1980. They were happily married for almost twenty-six years before he preceded her in death on January 28, 2006. She and her husband worked as guides for a bus tour company out of Wagoner for ten years. After retiring in 1982, Irma moved to Lake Eufaula in Bridgeport Dunes, where she resided. She attended the Checotah United Methodist Church. Irma was an avid golfer, golfing for over forty years. She also enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and sitting on her porches. Irma loved gardening and had many flower gardens. She was very independent. Irma gave up driving at the age of 98 and lived alone until July of this year due to a few falls.
Survivors include her daughters: Ella Louise DeGiacomo, of Eufaula, OK and Billie Jean Bolin, of Lavaca, AR; two grandchildren: Lynda Hunter, of McAlester, OK and Eric Bolin, of Lavaca, AR; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Cornelius McCalvey; one sister, Marie Cox (1995); son, Larry Gibson (2018); two grandchildren: Bobby Hall (2015) and Laura Caraccia (2005); and one great grandson, Seth Caraccia (2012).
