Hc "Skip" Franklin

September 14, 1951 — March 25, 2022

HC “Skip” Franklin was born on September 14, 1951, in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, to Anna Ruedean Conrad Franklin and Hogan Christopher Franklin. Skip was much loved by his family and many friends, and he spent his life making other people’s lives better. He was among the best of humanity, and he will be deeply missed by the many who love him. Skip was the patriarch of a large, loving, and cohesive blended family, and is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Henry Franklin, with whom he spent the best years of his life, and his children, Byron Cook, Rachel Franklin Martin, Cydney Cook Anderson, Jessica Franklin Driver, Brynn Cook Page, Tabitha Cook Olenick, and Cadence Franklin Larson, as well as their spouses, Amanda Cook, Michael Martin, Matt Anderson, John Driver, Will Page, Billy Olenick, and Shane Larson. He was adored by his grandchildren, who called him “Bepo”, and knew him as one of those “fun” grandfathers you normally only see in movies. His grandchildren, who will continue loving him throughout their lives, are Joey Cook, Landon Cook, Sophia and William Martin, Hailey and Hannah Anderson, Olivia Driver, Peyton, Tommy, and Wesley Page, Taylor Olenick, and Jesse and Jonah Larson. He is also survived by his brother and sister, Eugene Carter and Sherry Russell, and their spouses, Barbara Carter and Carl Russell. He spent his childhood in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, swimming in the Grand River, playing baseball, and serving as the captain of his high school football team. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1974, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Of course, Skip was a Razorbacks’ fan throughout his life and loved cheering on the teams. While progressing through a few early careers, from limousine driver to fire extinguisher salesman, Skip ultimately dedicated his life to the children of Oklahoma, serving the state and its families for almost 30-years in multiple rolls within OK DHS in their Child Welfare division. He retired from his last position as Program Administrator for Continuous Quality Improvement and Training Unit for OK DHS. Skip loved traveling, hiking, camping, antiquing, music, photography, his well-loved animals, and, above all, spending time with family and friends, who he loved until the end. He was also famous within the family for his amazing cooking, especially his “made to order” breakfasts served right off the griddle. He was a good man, a man with deep convictions, an honest man, a truly good man. He will be remembered for his boisterous laughter, contagious smile, hilarious impressions, charming personality, and his passion for giving his family members quality footwear as gifts. His memory will go on in the lives of those who loved him, the many Oklahoma children he helped escape abuse, and the generous love that he always showed his family and friends. The world is a smaller place without our beloved Bepo as he is now with God. In lieu flowers or a memorial service, we ask that you share memories of Skip.
