Harold Wayne Cantwell, 88, of Eufaula, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022, at the McAlester Regional Health Center. Harold was born on November 15, 1933, in Checotah, Oklahoma, the son of Troy Marvin and Viola (Largent) Cantwell. He graduated from Onapa High School in 1952. Harold enlisted in the United States Air Force on August 21, 1953, in Oklahoma City. While in the Air Force he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. He was honorably discharged on August 20, 1957. In 1955, Harold married Genell Elizabeth Hensley Bailey. They were married forty years and to this union two children were born. In 1979, Harold married Mary Elizabeth Jackson. Harold received his Associate's Degree from Connors State College and his Master's Degree in Education from Northeastern State University. He taught in several different states including Sutherlin, Oregon, Cunningham, Kansas. He was the principal at Liberty, Morris Public Schools and the superintendent at Boynton. Harold retired from the Pasadena, Texas school system in 1998. Harold enjoyed woodworking and built his dream home a two-story cabin. He also enjoyed fishing, teaching, and ranching where he took care of the horses and cattle. He was a member of the Vivian Baptist Church until 2018, where he attended the 7th Day Adventist Church of Muskogee. Survivors include: his son, Wayne Cantwell and wife Linda of McAlester; daughter, Penny Guthrie and husband Michael of Wainwright; sisters, Debbie Beverage of Muskogee and Billie Sue Williams and husband JE of Clovis, NM; three grandchildren, Ashley Guthrie, Kaci McGeehee and Chad Guthrie; great grandchildren, Makell Guthrie, Kensly Price, Holston Price, William Price, Madison Sam, Jaryn Sam, Michael Sam, Jaxon Guthrie, Abel Guthrie and Rhilyn Guthrie and numerous children and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Elizabeth and a brother, Darell Cantwell.
