Harold Haltom, 92 a dedicated and courageous Korean war veteran, who served our nation with honor, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024, at his home in Stigler, Oklahoma. Harold, the son of Omar and Maggie Lee (McBrayer) Haltom, was born on July 25, 1931, in Arkadelphia Arkansas. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1948 and received many honorable distinctions including two purple hearts, a Bronze Star, the Korean Conflict Medal and numerous other medals. He was stationed in Germany, France and South Korea during his time in the military. He retired from the Army in 1972.
Harold was married to Nona Haltom for 42 years, and to this union nine children were born. He later married Anita Long in 1995. They shared a marriage that lasted until she preceded him in death in August of 2023. Harold was a lifetime member of Eufaula VFW Post 8798 where he served in many positions including Commander. Harold also spent three years working at the state and national VFW levels where he worked to expand membership and ensure veterans received the benefits they deserved.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Omar and Maggie Haltom, 8 siblings, Anita Haltom, wife, Mary Harper, daughter and David Haltom, son.
Survivors include: two sisters Verna Yancy of Farmington AR, and Alice Kirksey of Malvern, AR; his children; Barbara Haltom of TX, Buzz Haltom and wife, Tammy of Moore, OK, Tammy Hunn of Checotah, OK, Jeanette Smith of Eufaula, OK, Billy Haltom and wife Marcy of Pierce, OK, Rodney Haltom of Eufaula, OK, Stacy Venson of Houston, TX and Son-in-law, Nathan Harper of Checotah, OK;
Step-son, Farrell Long of Midwest City, OK; Step daughters, Phyllis Pruett and husband Randy of Norman, OK, Emily Hunt and husband Jim of Harrah, OK, Beverly Allen and husband John of Kansas City, MO, Sharron Roberts and husband Kenny of Brooken, OK, and Candy Kilgore and husband Kenny of Newalla, OK. 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Eufaula VFW Post 8798.
