Gerald Carl Hill

Gerald Carl Hill, 89, of Okemah, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017, at his home. Gerald was born on November 22, 1927, in Apollo, Pennsylvania, the son of Samuel and Cora Bell (Clawson) Hill. He graduated high school from Bell Township in Salina, Pennsylvania in 1945. On November 10, 1956, he married Mary Ruth McGovern, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Gerald enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 29, 1946. While serving in the Army Gerald received several medals including two Good Conduct Medals, the World War II Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal of Japan and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on November 19, 1962. Gerald worked for the VA as a medical technician for twenty years in both Albuquerque and Muskogee. He and Mary moved back to Canadian Shores, Oklahoma in 1983. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and cutting down trees with his hands using axes and handsaws. He also loved to read and build little wood ships. He was a member of the Indianola First Baptist Church. Survivors include: his wife, Mary R. Hill, of the home; his sons, Thomas C. Hill and wife Jannis of Norman and Samuel L. Hill and wife Brenda of Okemah; his daughter, Donna Ruth Hill Beltzner and husband Robert of Quakertown, Pennsylvania; and seven grandchildren: Samuel P. Hill, Zachary G. Hill, Chansellor O. Hill, Michelle G. Hill, Christiane M. Hill, Carl A. Beltzner and Christopher I. Beltzner. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Leland.
