George Thomas Cheatham, 73, of Yukon, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at the Integris Canadian Valley Hospital in Yukon, Oklahoma. He was born on February 14, 1951, on a cold, snowy valentine morning in Poteau, OK.
George lived in Wilburton until 1963 when he moved with his parents and sister Dixie (Cheatham) Cooley to Del City, OK. George had a speech impediment with other special needs. with no special education available in the Wilburton Public School system he was able to continue his education within the Mid-Del system where he graduated from Del City high school.
After graduation George worked in maintenance with the Mid-Del school system as a painter. George and his parents moved to Lake Eufaula once his dad retired. George enjoyed fishing with his dad, always catching big catfish and crappie. He was a great cook and could fry the best fish ever.
George took pride in planting a big garden and always had an abundance of produce. He loved to raise chickens. George was a volunteer fireman for the surrounding rural communities and would often come home with the smell of smoke and ashes all over his clothing.
After losing both parents he moved to El Reno, OK, in 2008 to a residential care home and later to River Oaks Nursing Facility where he was content and cared for by the wonderful staff.
George was preceded in death by his father Herbert Glenn Cheatham; mother Clara Elizabeth (Houseman) Cheatham and brother Roy Glenn Cheatham.
He is survived by his sister Dixie (Cheatham) Cooley; nephew Brent Cooley and two nieces; Janice Girod and Renea Johnson.
