George "Pappy" Hobbs

February 21, 1944 — April 17, 2013

George was born on February 21, 1944 in Bellwood, West Virginia to Andrew James and Edna (Hunter) Hobbs. He attended church at the Sewell Valley Baptist Church in Rainelle, West Virginia. On May 24, 1961 he enlisted in the United States military. George served over twenty-two and a half years combined Air Force and Army, where he worked as an Ammunition and Explosive Tech and was also a qualified instructor. He taught cadets and other soldiers about different hand grenades. During his time in the military, he received the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Air Force Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the MCAAP Commander’s Pride Award, and the Commander’s Outstanding Achievement Award, as well as many others. On June 7, 1991, George married Jeanne Marie Mosley in Sherman, Texas. George also worked as a machine mechanic for DuPont and Rainbow Bread. He was stationed at the Army Ammunition Plant in 1990 and 1991. He retired from the United States Army on February 21, 2004. Survivors include: his wife, Jeanne Hobbs, of the home; two sons, George Hobbs, Jr.; Brian Hobbs and wife, Sally, both of Boise, Idaho; three daughters: Heather Spencer and husband, Aaron, of Broken Arrow, OK; Tina Rollins and husband, Chris, of Cleveland, Ohio; Darlene Marlin and husband, Al, of Dover, Delaware; one brother, James Hobbs, of Rainelle, West Virginia; one sister, Patsy Frolich, of Davenport, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Edna Hobbs; and one daughter, Honey Lynn.
