George Ivan Alexander, Sr., 89, of Eufaula, passed away at his home on July 24, 2017. George was born on May 23, 1928 in Waco, Texas to James Paul and Helen Chappel (White) Alexander. He served in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1950, where he learned his life-long trade as a diesel engineer. George worked for Shell Oil Company in the Gulf of Mexico, then as the Port Engineer at Kenner Bend near New Orleans, LA. He retired from Agri-Trans Corporation on the Mississippi River, where he was the Chief Engineer. George was a member of the Bedouin Shrine for forty years. Survivors include: sons: Dr. George Alexander, Jr. and wife, Christine; and David Alexander and Tammy Rainwater; daughters: Letha Hern and husband, Rick; and Karen Yarbrough and husband, Larry; son in-law, Dennis Godsey; sisters: Alice Rentfro; Myrna Dodson, and Marilyn Boland; fifteen grandchildren; and thirty great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Alexander; one daughter, Donna Godsey; four brothers: James Alexander, Jr.; Jack Alexander; Sherman Alexander; and Benton Alexander; and three sisters: Virginia Brewer; Pauline Childers; and Mary Corena Alexander. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
