Gayle Marie Hammons

Gayle was born on June 15, 1940 in Colony, Oklahoma to Leland Lilburn and Venna Novella (McLemore) Dunn. She attended and graduated as valedictorian of the Colony High School class of 1958. Gayle graduated from Oklahoma Christian College in 1960. She also attended the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, where she was voted Most Outstanding Senior Student. Gayle married Kenneth Dale Hammons on June 12, 1964. She worked as a teacher in Henryetta for two years and Indianola for thirty-one years, before retiring in 1992. Gayle was a member of the Church of Christ in Indianola, Oklahoma. Survivors include: her husband, Kenneth Hammons, of the home; one son, Kevin Hammons and wife, Cyndi, of Warner, OK; one daughter, Gina Garrett and husband, Kipton, of Alma, AR; one brother, Everett Dunn and wife, Electra, of Checotah, OK; one sister, Charlene Floyd, of Houston, TX; one sister in-law, Charlotte Dunn; and six grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Nova Dunn; and one brother, Wayne Dunn.
