Estelle Hughes

Anna Estelle Hughes, 101, of Checotah, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2022, at the Fort Gibson Nursing Home. Estelle was born on December 1, 1920, in Vivian, Oklahoma the daughter of Jonas Dow and Maude Emma (Pollard) Willmon. She graduated from Oak Grove School. Estelle married George Hughes on July 18, 1938. He preceded her in death on August 8, 2000. Estelle worked in healthcare as an LPN. She managed the Checotah Nursing Home for twenty-three years. She was a member of the Harmony Freewill Baptist Church. Estelle enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. Survivors include: her daughters, Twylla D. Kindell and husband Lamar, Sherry Montgomery and husband Jimmy, and Penny Wright and husband Floyd all of Eufaula; sons, George Wendell Hughes and wife Peggy of Tulsa, and Buddie Hughes and wife Linda of Big Cabin; fourteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, a daughter, Maudie Shackleford, son in law, Bill Shackleford, brothers, Willard, Britton, J.C., Obrey and Kenneth, and sisters, Ella, Olene, Winnie and Lahoma
