Emma Yuvonne Jones

Emma Yuvonne Rhodes Jones, age 84, passed away peacefully in her home on March 8, 2020 in Eufaula, Oklahoma. Her daughter Ronda was at her side. Emma was born in Hanna, Oklahoma on June 11th to Roy and Belle Rhodes. She was the 5th of seven siblings. She married the love of her life, Elbert Ray Jones, on September 11, 1955. On May 29, 1960 they were blessed with apple of their eye, Ronda Gayle Jones. Emma graduated from Hanna High School in May 1952, at the age of 16. She began attending Northeastern State University in June 1952. Emma thoroughly enjoyed her college days. She graduated from Northeastern State University in July of 1955 with a degree in Business Education. She later went on to obtain her Master's Degree in Elementary Education. Emma learned quickly she had chosen the right career. She had a passion for teaching. Her first teaching position was in Stidham, OK where she taught Business Education from 1954 - 1957. She then accepted a teaching position in Dustin, OK, teaching Business Education from 1957 - 1959. In 1959, she began teaching in Eufaula Public Schools. She started teaching 6th grade. During her teaching career she taught all grades but Kindergarten and First Grade. Emma was known to be a firm, strict but a fair teacher. She earned utmost respect from most of the students she taught. She favored 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. Emma retired in 1988, teaching 3rd Grade in Eufaula Public Schools. She served in Public Education for thirty-six years. Some of the happiest years of her life. Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; her parents and four siblings. She is survived by one daughter, Ronda Gayle Jones, of Eufaula, OK; and two siblings.
