Elden Leroy Northcutt, 93, of Canadian, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021, at Walnut Grove Living Center in McAlester. Elden was born on May 1, 1927, to Clarence Ellington and Gladys Neva (Johnson) Northcutt. He attended school at Stidham then Fame until the ninth grade. He then joined the Navy and served in World War 2. He was a carpenter his whole life, learning from his dad and on his own. He built homes and businesses in surrounding areas including J.M.’s Restaurant in Eufaula. Leroy worked with David Jackson and Coleman Vail. He married his love, Vera June Neill, on December 31, 1948. In his younger days, he loved to fish and hunt. He was passionate about gardening, picking blackberries and picking up and shelling pecans. Leroy loved everyone. He loved watching and hugging his great grandchildren. He always had a smile for everyone. He loved to talk and reminisce. Leroy was a member of Canadian First Baptist Church. He loved his church. Survivors include son Eldon Leo Northcutt and wife Cathy of Canadian; by his niece, Manoah Baker of McAlester, whom Leroy and wife Vera loving finished raising as one of their own daughters; son-in-law Scott Scharbach of McAlester; sister-in-law LeJoyce Neill of Canadian; sister Betty Wood and husband Johnny of Eufaula; sister Reba Cardoza of California; and sister Roberta Zeilke of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by grandchildren Lee and LariAnn Northcutt, Greg Northcutt, Callie and Matt Mann, Brent Northcutt, Barb Northcutt, Danny Smith and Chelsea, Micah Smith, Johnathan Northcutt, Annie Slater, Dustin and Lauren Northcutt, Bryanna Willingham, Rae Ann Scharbach, Samuel Scharbach and great grandchildren Evan Northcutt, William Mann, Lorelei Northcutt, Neva and Lena Northcutt, Liam, Amelia and Ava Smith, Brileigh and Callie Smith, McKinsey, Charlie and Chandler Northcutt, Anderson, Foster, and baby boy on the way Willingham and Radina Welch. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Gladys Northcutt; wife Vera June (2014); son Joel (2006); daughters Juanita (2007), Neva Jean (2015), Anita (2018); his brother Jesse; sisters Bonnie Moiser (Manoah’s mother), Joyce Ables, Geraldine Davis, an infant set of twin sisters, and his brothers-in-law C.P. Neill, Arthur Zeilke, Junior Ables, Richards Davis and Al Cardoza.
