Douglas Burwell, 82, of Eufaula, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at his home with his family by his side. Douglas was born on December 17, 1935 in Crowder, Oklahoma to Fred and America (Haight) Burwell. He moved to Canadian in 1936, where he spent his school years and graduated in 1954. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1956. During his service, Douglas spent most of his time in France. In 1957, he attended Northeastern College and received his Bachelor's Degree in 1960. On February 28, 1958, Douglas married Barbara Stephenson. They were happily married for sixty years. Douglas later received his Master's Degree in Education and spent thirty years working in the Eufaula Public School Systems. He worked as a Junior High Principal from 1967 until 1979 when he became the High School Counselor until his retirement in 1990. Douglas was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eufaula, Oklahoma. Survivors include: his wife, Barbara, of 60 years; sons: David Burwell and Brent Burwell and wife, Lisa; granddaughters, Cara and Allyson Burwell; and three sisters in-law: Shirley Burwell; Mary Weitz; and Pat Sigler; nephew Greg Todd and wife, Susan; nieces: Madison and Jenna Todd; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and America Burwell; sister, Gilberta Arterberry and brothers: Dan Burwell, Tom Burwell, Teedle Weitz, and Manuel Weitz;
