Dortha Mae Duke, of Canadian, Oklahoma died at her home on November 13, 2015. She was born on April 30, 1927 to Edward and Effie Hallum in Stidham, Oklahoma. Dortha grew up in Onapa, Oklahoma, where she graduated in 1945 and was known as a good basketball player. May 18, 1946, she married David M. Duke. They were married 69 years before David"s death in July 2015. They lived in Canadian, Oklahoma for more than 68 years, where they owned and operated Duke Grocery and Texaco Station. Dortha was a long-time member of the Canadian Church of Christ, where she taught children"s classes for many years. Survivors include: her four children: Colette Tucker and husband, Mac; Larry David Duke and wife, Patty; Gaylene Weathers and husband, Doug; Karen Easley and husband, Loyd; seven grandchildren: Brent Duke, Heather, Duke, Shawn Westbrooks, Bradley Weathers, Bret Weathers, Brody Easley, and Jordyn Easley; eleven great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; three sisters: Gertrude Kusler, Lorene Robertson, and Bonnie Higbee; one brother in-law, Wayne Harding; five sister in-laws: Texie Massengale, Mary Lou Borum, Kathryn Cannon, Leota Cole, and Sally Duke. She is preceded in death by her husband, David M. Duke; parents, Ed and Effie Hallum; and one sister, Vernia Harding.
