Donald Wayne Cox

May 25, 1967 — July 17, 2023

Donald Wayne Cox, 56, passed away Monday, July 17, 2023, in Brooken, OK. Don was born on May 25, 1967, to Huey Wayne and Ila Cox, in Midwest City, OK. He grew up in McLoud, OK. Don played on the football team at McLoud High School from 1982 -1985. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1989 with a degree in Agricultural Education. While attending OSU, Don played on the football team. He was proud that he once jammed Mike Gundy's finger during a deep snap. While serving as the agriculture teacher at Porum High School, he went on to complete his Masters Degree in Administration. He served as the Porum High School principal until 2008. In the summer of 2008, Don was hired as the Superintendent at the Quinton School District. He retired in 2019. While serving as an educator Don worked for the Corps of Engineers in different capacities. He served for a combined total of 20 years as a volunteer firefighter for the Porum and Quinton Fire Departments. Don had surrendered his life to Jesus as Lord and Savior. He shared the gospel openly to many throughout his life. He wanted everyone to know that the only hope in life in death is Christ Jesus. He shared this verse and lived it through his words and actions: "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus." Romans 3:23-24. Jesus was Don's number one priority. Next, came his family and friends. His six children, nine grandchildren, wife, and numerous nieces and nephews were his world. His favorite hobby was turkey hunting. Don also loved to hunt for deer, fish, spend time on Lake Eufaula, travel and torment his twin sister Donna.

Don is survived by his wife, Tonya Jo Cox of the home, whom he deeply loved but threatened to sue eHarmony on occasion; daughters, Ashton Clayborn and husband Brandon, Taylor Williams and husband Garrett, Ashton Abbott and husband Christopher, and Lily Jo Pettypiece; sons, Chase Pettypiece and Cooper Pettypiece; twin sister, Donna Shields and husband Steve; brother, DeWayne Cox and wife Debbie; and sister, Paula Vanlandingham and husband Brent.
