David Wesley Smith, 82, of Canadian, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, February 18, 2022, at the St. Francis Hospital of Muskogee. David was born on January 5, 1940, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, the son of Charley Wesley and Altha E. (Henson) Smith. David graduated from Shawnee High School in 1958. He enlisted in the United States Army on August 19, 1958 and was honorably discharged on August 18, 1961. He attended the University of Central Oklahoma. On December 14, 1959, David married Janice Fair in Shawnee. To this union two children were born. They were happily married for thirty-six years. David worked as a heavy-duty vehicle operator at Tinker Air Force Base for thirty-three years. He retired in 1990. On September 30, 1999, David married Carol J. Keiser Giddens in Shawnee. They were happily married for twenty-two years. After retirement, David and Carol moved to Canadian, Oklahoma. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include: his wife, Carol, of the home; daughter, Tami Dawn Sullivan and husband Fran of Southeast, Tennessee; son, Scott Smith of Shawnee, Oklahoma; adopted sons, Robert and Riley of the home; step daughters, Judith J. Burgin of Shawnee, Oklahoma and Lora Ann Witt of Shawnee, Oklahoma; sister in law, Carol Ann of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, Callie Sullivan, Keegan Sullivan, Mindy Jo Smith, Angie Smith & Richard Smith; five step grandchildren, three great grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren; brother and sister in law, Eddie and Linda Keiser of Texas and a host of nieces, nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert Smith, daughter in law, Tinia Smith and two nephews Brad and Jason Smith.
