Christine Carroll Harkey

August 19, 1913 — June 9, 2017

Billie Beatrice Christine "Chris" Carroll Harkey was born August 19th, 1913 and passed away peacefully on June 9th, 2017 in Eufaula Manor Nursing Home, Eufaula, OK. She was the oldest of six children (five girls and one boy), born to Lovie Idell Thomas Carroll and Oscar Lorenzo Carroll. Christine's first love was her Lord, her Church and her immediate and large extended family. John L Harkey, the love of her life, dearest husband and closest friend of over 60 years, preceded her in death in 1996 and her beloved son, John Carroll "Toby" Harkey, also a love of her life, and a special son-in-low, Roy Cleek, Jr, preceded her in death, as well as her parents, a sister, Juanita who drowned at the age of four, a sister Donna Jo Carroll Beard and a sister Kathleen Goodrich. Survivors include: a daughter, Judith Cleek who lives in VA, her daughter-in-law, Mary Harkey who lives in Eufaula, OK, eight grandchildren, twelve grand-children, 2 great grand-, children, a sister, Lynn Cason who lives in South Dakota, a brother and sister-in-law, Len and Kay Carroll who live in South Carolina, sister-in-law, Cretia Brooks Harkey of Okemah, OK, and many, many much-adored, much-loved nieces and nephews and their families scattered all over the USA. Christine was a bright, loving and passionate woman whose optimism and enthusiasm served as a model for those fortunate enough to know her. She loved life and enjoyed being with her family and friends, having never met a "stranger". She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, Aunt, friend and community member. Chris"s life was also accompanied by a generosity of spirit and love for others and cooking which she shared so freely and so often with others. She made a great effort to donate her time to her Church and to her Community and was unmatched in beauty, peacefulness, and camaraderie. She was a beautiful woman and strong-willed soul who touched the lives of all those fortunate enough to meet her. To say that she will be sadly missed is an understatement of almost overwhelming proportion. The family has requested no flowers please but if you choose, donations made to her beloved church in Eufaula, Oklahoma. First Baptist Church. 400 West Foley Avenue, Eufaula, OK 74432. Graveside services for Christine will be held in conjunction with a Family Reunion at a later date in Okemah, OK where she will be next to her husband in the HARKEY plot.
